Scouting

Scouting Basics

Scouting success and the detail of information you get from scouting missions may vary on many factors

  • Your Informatics level (Researched in the Academy)
  • The amount of Scouts you send
  • If you include a Hero in your mission, his Intelligence will count
  • If you are spying against a Valley, its level.
  • Scouts require food as well. If you are sending just scouts (fastest) your range will be limited. Beginners can go about 100-110 miles. When you send scouts, if Load Vacancy is negative you are sending them too far. Find a closer target.

The most important factor is researching Informatics. Every level of Informatics increases the chance of success and the level of detail that will be provided on a successful scouting attempt. To successfully scout an area or a city your Informatics level must be equal to or higher than the area being scouted.

Image:ExampleIcon.PNG Example: To successfully scout a level 3 Grassland you will require a level 3 Informatics or higher.

The number of scouts sent on a scouting expedition also contributes to the success of the mission. For every level of the area being scouted a minimum of 10 scouts should be sent.
Image:ExampleIcon.PNG Example: For a level 3 Grassland 30 Scouts will provide the most details.

Scouting

In order to scout someone you must have Scouts. When you scout someone you get a report. These reports however don't give you any information at first. Increasing your Informatics research gives you more detailed information. Eventually you start getting data when you scout players. The defences, The army, The buildings, etc. Once high enough you just get accurate numbers.

However if you aren't high enough yet you occasionally get something that looks like this:

TroopsAmount
Warriors
Swarm
PikemenThrong
Archers
Horde

Instead of accurate amounts, you get words instead. These words stand for specific Ranges in troops. These ranges are as follows.

AmountRange
Few 1 - 24
Pack 25 - 49
Lots 50 - 99
Horde 100 - 249
Throng 250 - 499
Swarm 500 - 999
Zounds 1000-2499
Legion 2500 - 4999
Bulk 5000 - 9999
Giga >10,000

After scouting you must determine your plan of attack. See Attack

Scouting with Hero

You can include a hero in your scouting mission. This will increase the level of detailed information in combination with your informatics. The higher intelligence of the hero, the more he affects the outcome.

Select a hero in the march screen

Warning: If scouts are detected and killed, the hero may be as well!

Scouting for Weak Defending Heroes

One method of sleighting an NPC's defenses is to repeatedly scout it and check the defending Hero level.
This will change each time the city is scouted. Repetition and persistence will lead to a very weak defending
Hero being offered up by the city. At this point, STOP scouting, attack! File:WeakHeroSearch.jpg

Attacking

Attacking Basics

There are two different ways to perform an attack.

  • click the Map button to open the world map Map Button
  • launch the attack from your Rally Spot

Map Button

Clicking the Map button will give an overview of the province you are in and your neighbors. To attack, click on any tile in the map view to gain details of the area. Displayed is some key information that is vital to a successful attack.

Attack Breakdown
  • Coordinates The location in X,Y of the tile
  • Owner The current owner of the tile
  • Type and Level Type of tile resource and the level of the tile
  • Status with you and your alliance The current status. Can be Peacetime, At War or Truce
  • State The state the tile is located in (useful if sent coordinates from another player to get an idea of how far away the tile is)
  • Attack Button Initiates the attack
  • Scout Button Initiates a Scouting maneuver

Rally Spot

The rally spot allows another way to launch an attack providing you have the X,Y coordinates prior to the attack. Click the March button and this will display the attacking window. Army size is limited to 10,000 times the Rally Spot level, eg. 20,000 for this one.

Attacking Window

Attack Window

  • Select Armies Select the soldiers you will be sending to battle
    • Max Selects all soldiers including Scouts
    • Clear Clears your selection
    • Apply War Ensign Increases Rally Spot army limits by 25%, requires item
  • Mission Requirements The minimum amount of food required to feed your army as it marches (deducted from your resources when starting the march) and the amount of resources your army is able to carry
Image:ExampleIcon.PNG Example: In a successful pillage your army may acquire some resources that can be returned to your city. The Load Vacancy is the maximum amount of resources you can carry from the pillage. Load Vacancy is also required when transferring resources from one city to another
  • Target Coordinates for the tile you are attacking
  • Mission The Mission type. Can be either Attack, Scout, Reinforce or Transport
  • Hero The Hero to send on the mission. A Hero is mandatory for an Attack
  • Camp Time Time to stay in the tile before returning. Only works if you do not own or conquer the tile otherwise your army will camp until recalled
  • Resources Resources to send with the army. In a Transfer Mission, add the resources you wish to send
  • Estimated time based on the above settings Estimated arrival time to the destination and the return.
Image:ExampleIcon.PNG Example: Arrival time may change after an Attack is completed due to the amount of resources that needs to be carried

Evony Stats

Note: Stats are not the player rankings/high scores. The stats of your mayor/castellan make a large contribution to the development of your city. Stats are also valuable for attacking heroes. For each level that the hero gains, 1 point is given to place in either Politics, Attack, or Intelligence. Loyalty is also very important.

Politics

As a Mayor:

  • Politics will give you 1% increased production for each point of politics
  • Politics reduces Construction times as well (Base time x 0.995 ^ Politics) x 0.9 ^ Construction level

Attack

As a Mayor:

  • Attack reduces troop recruitment time. Time after research improvements x 0.995 ^ Attack
  • Attack will increase your defending troops' success in battle.

As an attacking hero:

  • Attack increases your Success in attacking others.

Intelligence

As a Mayor:

  • Intelligence lowers the time it takes you to research something in the Academy. Base time x 0.995 ^ Intelligence
  • Intelligence makes it harder for your enemy to scout you.

As an attacking hero:

  • Intelligence increases your ability to scout others.

Loyalty

If you capture an opponent's hero in a battle, giving that hero gold will persuade him/her to join your forces.
See Loyalty. Giving the Hero medals and more gold will increase loyalty after they have been persuaded. Initially
the new Hero will join your forces with 0 loyalty. See Reward Button section in the Feasting Hall.

Salary

This is simply ( 20 x Hero's Level ) gold per hour

Hero Formula

These following formula are useful for working out what your hero will do:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hero skill Formula Where shown

Production

Base production x [(Mayor Politics / 100)]

Overview -> Production(tab) -> Hero Plus(row)

Construction

(Base time x 0.995 ^ Mayor Politics) x 0.9 ^ Construction level (from academy

Costs Time on mouse-over Build or Upgrade button.

Unit Training

Time after improvements x 0.995 ^ Mayor Attack

Costs Time on mouse-over Recruit button.

Research

Base time x 0.995 ^ Mayor Intelligence

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The last three show diminishing returns, suggesting that a mayor is better to have a good mix than being particularly strong in one aspect.

A better plan is to have a couple of heroes who are strong in one category each. The time for research, construction, and troop training is set when you initiate the transaction. If you change your mayor after starting troop training, for example, the time needed for the troops will stay the same. So keep a mayor with a high politics number in place until you go to train troops, switch to your main attack guy, recruit the troops, then switch back to your politician. You would do the same with a hero with a high Intelligence when doing research in your academy. This will allow you to maximize each transaction.
